About Thomson

Strong John Thomson Elementary School currently serves 388 students from Head Start through sixth grade. Although enrollment in most DC Public Schools has declined, our enrollment has increased steadily; in the last two years our enrollment has increased by 100 students.

We are located in the heart of downtown at 1200 L Street N.W. Thomson serves as the neighborhood school for a number of diverse communities, including the Hispanic, African, and African-American communities near Massachusetts Avenue and the Asian population in and around Chinatown. Through lottery, it also draws out-of-boundary students from all over the city. Thomson prides itself in being a school that is committed to Diversity, Academic Excellence and the Arts.
